NCAA Tournament Projections III

softball
Updated as of May 13th 8:30 P.M.
Selection Sunday is almost here.
Georgia taking 2 of 3 at Arkansas boost SEC chances of getting all 13 teams into the field of 64. Arkansas and Missouri may be teams that may need to nervous. Missouri came in limping into SEC Tournament and only won 1 conference series all year. A loss to LSU in the first round didn’t help the Tigers much.
The big loser if SEC gets all 13 in more then likely will be A-SUN. At one point, it was looking they would have 2-3 teams into field yet may settle for only one since Upstate won their 2nd straight conference championship.
The same can be said for The American with Tulsa winning their second AAC championship Saturday versus Houston. With Marshall losing in the semifinals in C-USA all but locks up an at-large bid for the Thundering Herd which means Louisville might have to sweat it out come Sunday night after being one-and-done in ACC Tournament
There will be lots of chatter after Selection Sunday on direction of the sport one way or another.

Projecting The Field of 64 of 2017 II

softballCouple of changes this week. With Kennesaw State big sweep of Lipscomb knocks Lipscomb out of field for now and SIUE slips in.  Georgia losing two of three at home to South Carolina puts them out for now with big series awaiting against Arkansas. The Top 12 in the SEC make the SEC Tournament. Georgia currently in 13th spot.  USF which has won 5 in a row and has a big series at Houston which could decide second place in AAC for now is in over Georgia. But this is very fluid situation. with couple of weeks left before Selection Sunday.

NCAA Tournament Projections 2017

With three weeks until Selection Sunday. The big debate it appears in 2017 will be how many teams will the SEC get the field of 64?
The SEC has all teams in the top 32 of the RPI which historically is where you want to be to get a bid into the field of 64.
In the past usually couple of teams would fall of the pace and not get consideration but if the commitee goes by the RPI which they historically do that will not be the case this season.
Georgia which is 4-14 in last 18 games and sits in last place of the SEC with 3-15 still has an RPI of 28 and Bulldogs can argue they have been a victim of the in balance SEC Conference schedule. The Bulldogs had to play at Florida, at Texas AM and at LSU.
The other question will be will Power 5 take up spots at expense of each other or the non power 5 conferences? If the SEC were to get 12-13 teams will it be at expense of Power 5 conference like Big 10, Big 12, ACC or at expense of the  American, Big West , OVC or the A-SUN conference which is ranked in the top 5 conferences according to the RPI. Those are some of the storylines to follow in the next few weeks.
